Shouldn't Come Back is a song by Demi Lovato which appears as the twelfth track on her fourth album,  DEMI.

Critical Reception

On May 9, 2013 in a track-by-track Billboard review, writer Jason Lipshutz stated: " After flaunting her pyrotechnic voice throughout the album, Lovato (relatively) dials it down and glumly suggests that the one she's missing the most is probably better off gone. Her voice inevitably swells during the climax, but the technical decision to treat the subject matter as demurely as possible pays off handsomely." [1]

Lyrics

See you're calling again, I don't wanna pick up, no, oh
I've been laying in bed, probably thinking too much, oh, oh
Sorry I'm not sorry for the times I don't reply; you know the reason why

Maybe you shouldn't come back
Maybe you shouldn't come back to me
Tired of being so sad, tired of getting so mad, baby
Stop right now, you'll only
Let me down, oh oh
Maybe you shouldn't come back
Maybe you shouldn't come back to me

Trying not to forget should be easier than this, oh, oh
All the birthdays you've missed,
I was only a kid, oh, oh
Sorry I'm not sorry for the times, I don't reply; you know the reason why

Maybe you shouldn't come back
Maybe you shouldn't come back to me
Tired of being so sad, tired of getting so mad, baby
Stop right now, you only let me down, oh oh
Maybe you shouldn't come back
Maybe you shouldn't come back to me
To me

Sorry I'm not sorry for the times

Maybe you shouldn't come back
Maybe you shouldn't come back to me
Tired of being so sad, I'm tired of getting so mad, baby
Stop right now, you'll only let me down, oh, oh
Maybe you shouldn't come back
Maybe you shouldn't come back to me

Maybe you shouldn't come back to me

Trivia

  • This is demonstrated on "Shouldn't Come Back" and "Warrior"; which Lovato states are too personal to perform live, comparing them to a song from Unbroken entitled "For the Love of a Daughter".
  • The song sings about the pain she felt in her relationship with her late estranged father, Patrick Lovato.
